When a plan is cheap, one or more of these is missing. When it is expensive, you are usually paying for hours you do not use. Here is the list.

Security that is watched
Firewall, malware scanning, SSL kept current, and someone who cleans it up if something gets in. Most plans charge for the cleanup. Ours includes it.

Backups that restore
Daily, off-site, with one-click restore. A backup on the same server as the site is not a backup, and a restore that costs extra is a bill on your worst day.

Updates that are tested
On WordPress, core, plugin, and theme updates on a staging copy first. This is the job that separates maintenance from a plugin-update subscription.

Changes you can send by email
Included update time every month, with a written turnaround. On our plans that is 1 hour and 24 to 48 hours, and anything we can handle inside that time counts. What counts as an update.

Managed hosting still makes you do the work.
Most "managed" plans update the core and leave you the plugins, the broken form, the malware cleanup, the speed work, and the ticket queue. Maintenance plans from agencies usually bill the restore, the cleanup, and the emergency separately.
Compare the fine print, not the headline price. The cheap plan is cheap because something is missing.

The hours
How often the site changes. A brochure site that changes a few times a year fits in 1 hour a month. A site that publishes weekly, or runs promotions needs 3 hours and up, and same day turnaround when possible. That is Fully Managed Custom, and the price is tailored to the site.
Not the features

How much does website maintenance cost per month?
For a small business site with hosting, security, backups, and updates in one plan, $150 to $250 a month. That is what our two Essentials & Security plans cost: $150 for a static site, $250 for the WordPress CMS, each with 1 hour of updates included. Sites that change every week or carry real revenue are priced to fit on Fully Managed Custom.
Why is WordPress maintenance more expensive than static?
Because there is more to maintain. A static site has no plugins, no database, and nothing to update, so it is faster and harder to hack. WordPress needs core, plugin, and theme updates every month, tested on staging, plus the security work that comes with running software. The extra $100 is that care.
Is there a setup fee?
It depends on the site. We start with a free site review and let you know what the move will cost, if anything, before we touch it. Most sites move over as part of getting started. A site that arrives hacked, broken, or badly built and needs real repair first gets a number up front.
What does the hourly rate cover?
Anything beyond the update time your plan includes, and one-off work for sites not on a plan. It is $300 an hour, and we tell you before we spend it. Nobody gets a surprise invoice.
Can I just pay hourly instead of a monthly plan?
For a one-off fix, yes. For a site that is alive, no, and here is why: a plan includes hosting, security, backups, and remediation whether or not you send a single update that month. Hourly buys you the update and nothing that keeps the site safe in between.
What happens if I do not maintain my website?
It gets slower, then it gets stale, then something breaks or gets in. The plugin nobody updated, the certificate that lapsed, the form that stopped sending. It is never one dramatic event. Do you maintain sites you did not build?
Yes. WordPress or static, on any host. We move it, clean it up, and put it on a plan. The price is the same as for the sites we build.
What is included that other providers charge extra for?
Malware cleanup, restores, staging, emergency support, and the person who answers. On most maintenance plans those are line items or upgrades. On ours every feature in the table is in every plan, and the differences are only the CMS and the hours.
